As part of our Nexaris Therapy Suites, Nexaris MR combines premium MRI technology with MAGNETOM Sola and MAGNETOM Vida with state-of-the-art OR solutions. This results in highly detailed image quality, safe, efficient patient set-up and -transport, as well as cost-effective and flexible solutions for siting and OR tables.
Customer Stories
Discover this series of five videos where Dr. Coiteiro (Hospital da Luz, Lisbon, Portugal) addresses various aspects and benefits of the use of Nexaris MR in neurosurgery.
In Essence – Clinical Value
Albeit the proven technological excellence of the Nexaris MR suite, its clinical value must justify the large capital investment. At da Luz Hospital, Dr. Coiteiro strongly supports the clinical value of the Nexaris MR suite as otherwise precision medicine is not enabled, especially to visualize hidden structures. Intraoperative MRI has shown to promote progression-free survival despite adding time to the surgery. As the number of minimal invasive neurosurgeries and types of therapies are projected to increase in the coming years, Nexaris MR suite is considered as the perfect solution to visualize smaller lesions and facilitate early-stage disease interventions.
Enabling precision medicine
Targeted therapy is an integral part of providing precision medicine. This is where the Nexaris MR suite comes into play. At the heart of this is the Nexaris Dockable Table (NDT), the head clamp, and the navigation system that allow precise patient positioning for the intraoperative transfer. Such transfer occurs from the surgical table to the MR for imaging and back to the operating table followed by overlaying images to check for remaining abnormal tissue.
Making the hidden visible
Quality of care delivery and outcome in neurosurgery is determined by being able to identify tumor margins. Nexaris MR brings in its value by providing the surgeons with images before and during surgery. As the brain shift occurs during surgery, cancerous tissue may become less visible and hidden by healthy tissue. This increases the risk of leaving cancerous tissue behind that consequently reduces the progression-free survival.
Preface – Operating room equipment
The Nexaris MR suite equipment addresses key aspects of a surgeon’s clinical needs in the operating room and shared use for diagnostic imaging. Each piece has its clinical relevance to allow optimal care delivery, even under the most challenging conditions. Together with a well-trained staff in the operating room, the provided technological infrastructure allows for smooth operation despite the complex nature of neurosurgery.
Clinical Case Report – Surgical Workflow
Not every clinical case is the same and thus, the workflow differs. The operating room equipment and its intraoperative use must be always at the ready for the neurosurgeon. As an example of the complexity, the present patient underwent an intraoperative, partially “awake” neurosurgery for malignant tumor removal. Together with a highly synchronized operating room staff and intraoperative imaging, the tumor was completely removed. Post surgery, the patient exhibited no neurological impairment, indicating the successful utilization of the Nexaris MR suite.
