Angiography or arteriography is an imaging technique used in medicine to visualize the inside, or lumen, of blood vessels and organs of the body, such as the arteries, veins, and heart chambers. A radio-opaque contrast agent is injected into the blood vessel and imaging is done using X-ray based techniques such as fluoroscopy. Angiography is derived from the Greek words angeion 'vessel' and graphein 'to write, record'. The film or image of the blood vessels is called an angiograph, or more commonly an angiogram.
