Computed Tomography for PediatricsYou think ahead. We innovate ahead.
Computed tomography is critical to pediatric diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, but it also presents unique challenges. Pediatric CT imaging requires both precision and carefulness to accommodate children's heightened sensitivity to radiation, increased propensity for movement, higher heart rates, and the emotional stress of the scanning process.
Our Dual Source CT scanners, with one exceptional model featuring photon-counting technology, are engineered to provide high image quality for various patient groups, especially with the unique challenges of pediatric imaging.
At the same time, all Single Source scanners in our CT portfolio are capable of performing the majority of standard CT exams.
Designed with a patient-centric and simplified workflow with fast scan times and low radiation dose, our scanners help reduce the stress associated with imaging – for both children and their parents.

Pediatric practice: Where dose and speed matter most 1)
Low dose and high temporal resolution are fundamental in pediatric imaging. With photon-counting CT and Dual Source CT, our portfolio offers two technologies that offer vital benefits for your youngest patients.
Photon-counting redefines the role of CT
With NAEOTOM Alpha, the world's first photon-counting CT, we have introduced a technology that can contribute to a new role for CT in pediatrics. With low radiation dose, high spatial resolution and improved image contrast, it helps you address the challenges of pediatric imaging.
Dual Source benefits meet accessibility
SOMATOM Pro.Pulse is a smartly designed Dual Source CT scanner that combines the strengths of Dual Source technology with simpler scanning workflows and a range of dose reduction features. Ideal for pediatric applications, it delivers fast, low-dose scans and reduced motion artifacts, while streamlining installation and maintenance efforts for healthcare facilities.
Take a closer look at how NAEOTOM Alpha and Dual Source CT can help pediatric patients.

Holistic patient experience
Children differ fundamentally from other patient groups in terms of their emotional and cognitive needs. To ensure smooth pediatric imaging exams and best possible treatment, Siemens Healthineers and its partners have developed a holistic approach. This includes child-friendly preparation and supporting materials – designed to help reduce the perceived stress level of medical staff, children, and parents.
Introducing MINITOM Kids
MINITOM Kids is our newest contribution to pediatric patient experience. This child-sized model scanner allows children to become familiar with the scan process through interactive exploration.
MINITOM Kids includes a moveable table, a button that creates scan noises, and a tunnel under the scanner which children can use to practice lying still in the bore. The attached tablet demonstrates how Gerda, the Brave Giraffe is scanned. Gerda is the protagonist of our children’s book for pediatric patient preparation, which is available in six languages.
