Siemens Healthineers donates molecular test kits

for COVID-19 to various healthcare institutions & foundations

Philippines

|2020-07-01
  • Siemens Healthineers molecular test kit, also known as RT-PCR, will help detect SARS-CoV-2 -
    the cause of COVID-19
  • Four (4) hospitals and foundations received the test kits

Siemens Healthineers in the Philippines recently donated a total of 60 of its molecular Fast Track Diagnostics (FTD) SARS-CoV-2 Assay Test Kits, equivalent to nearly 2000 tests – also known commonly as RT-PCR Test Kits - to selected healthcare institutes across the country. The donation is intended to contribute in the fight against the current COVID-19 pandemic through high inclusivity and specificity SARS-CoV-2 testing.

Among the recipients of the donation are the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital & Medical Center, St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation, and National Kidney & Transplant Institute. All these institutes are outfitted with compatible molecular laboratory setup to run the samples.

About the Siemens Healthineers SARS-CoV-2 Assay Test

The test has shown 100% (91.8-100, 95% CI) diagnostic sensitivity and 100% (93.8-100, 95% CI) diagnostic specificity. Sample-to-answer time, including extraction and generating the result, takes 2-3 hours, depending on the molecular system and lab resources employed.

The FTD SARS-CoV-2 Assay was developed by Fast Track Diagnostics, a Siemens Healthineers Company, in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. Fast Track Diagnostics was acquired by Siemens Healthineers at the end of 2017.
