Manila Doctors Hospital today unveiled its new Mammomat Revelation HD Breast Tomosynthesis system, the first medical facility to have this kind in the Philippines and Southeast Asia.

The Philippines holds one of the highest incidence rates of breast cancer in Asia. According to the 2015 Philippine Cancer Facts & Estimates1, it is the most commonly known cancer found in women ranking 1st for both incidence and mortality. The report also suggests that occurrence start rising steeply at age 30. With early diagnosis and treatment, incidence can be apprehended.

Manila Doctors Hospital (MDH) is at the forefront of the battle against this life-threatening disease. Being the first in Southeast Asia to have the latest breast imaging innovation from Siemens Healthineers, Mammomat Revelation enables MDH to expand precision medicine, improve clinical operations, and increase patient satisfaction.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer women are diagnosed with. Being able to see breast tissues and malignancies clearly with accuracy makes the difference in early detection and treatment. At Manila Doctors Hospital, being equipped with the latest technological trends to support our medical team is our top priority – a testament to our commitment to providing world class care for our patients,” said Ms. Elizabeth Dantes, President of Manila Doctors Hospital.

Studies have shown that Asian women are known to have a higher proportion of dense breast tissue, thus, the need for improved screening accuracy in a mammography system is essential. The new Mammomat Revelation features a unique 50-degree HD Breast Tomosynthesis which allow physicians to achieve the highest depth resolution to get a more precise and clearer 3D view. Wider angle means more individualized compression tailored to the structure of each patient’s breast making anatomical details clearly visible.

Furthermore, taking of tissue sample through biopsies can be performed leveraging this wide tomosynthesis angle.

Enhanced Patient Comfort during Screening
Mammography is often associated with pain and negative experiences, resulting in nervous patients. Manila Doctors Hospital has taken the fight against breast cancer to new heights by debunking these impressions. “Some women may still have the notion that mammography exams are painful. It could be from previous experiences, or, the fear from getting a mammogram the first time. But every person’s pain threshold is different and through the years, advances in breast imaging have been uncovered with this mind,” explained Ms. Dantes.

Mammomat Revelation provides smart automated breast density measurements at the point of examination. This allows for personalized risk stratification and necessary adjunct imaging exams can be triggered before the patient leaves. As tumor tissue can be difficult to distinguish from breast tissue, functional breast imaging with contrast enhanced mammography now expands the diagnostic options with the new system and improves patient access to functional imaging.

Patients also get to feel at ease during exams with the system’s intuitive Personalized Soft Compression technology which allow the breast compression process to be softened and the compression force automatically and individually adjusted – giving greater comfort for a better patient experience.

“We are proud to be the first hospital in Southeast Asia to have Mammomat Revelation up and running. With the system’s innovative features combined with the comfort and ease it can give our patients, Manila Doctors Hospital is leading the way in the early detection breast cancer.” ended Ms. Dantes

Mammomat Revelation also features Siemens Healthineers’ revolutionary Prime Technology which reduce dose by up to 30% making scans safer for patients without compromising image.

Mike Tan, President of Siemens Healthineers in the Philippines mentioned, “At Siemens Healthineers, we enable healthcare providers to achieve better outcomes with proven technologies which can transform the way care is delivered. With the first Mammomat Revelation in the country, we are expanding precision medicine through early diagnosis of breast cancer. We are also improving patient experience by reducing discomfort through the system’s Personalized Soft Compression technology thereby reducing patient anxiety and hesitation to get a mammography.” He further added, “October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and together with Manila Doctors Hospital, we are committed to strengthening breast health through digital breast tomosynthesis.”
