CT imaging in oncology

Computed Tomography for OncologyYou think ahead. We innovate ahead.

Oncology imaging solutions are vital for patient health worldwide. In the next 16 years alone, the number of new cancer cases per year is expected to increase by 55%.1

CT imaging plays a key role in oncology imaging today. Groundbreaking technology such as iterative reconstruction, spectral imaging, and perfusion scans have benefited the diagnostic potential of CT for this field.

CT solutions from Siemens Healthineers enable you to take oncology imaging to the next level. Excellent image quality awaits you, helping you rule out malignancies and make therapeutic decisions. Built-in AI support permits simplified and standardized workflows regardless of staff experience level, individual patient needs, and procedure type. And, thanks to innovative dose control technologies, you can provide highly personalized care.

Precise imaging is key for diagnosis, treatment selection, and monitoring and controlling treatment outcomes. Conventional CT scans do not always provide sufficient information to enable accurate cancer diagnoses or ensure early lesion detection. For this, you need high-quality spectral information – and our CT portfolio provides it.

Our spectral imaging solutions comprise TwinBeam Dual Energy, Dual Source Dual Energy, and of course our groundbreaking Quantum Technology available on NAEOTOM Alpha. In every case, the functionality is fully integrated into the acquisition workflow, permitting PACS-ready results with customizable and fully automated reconstruction.

CT is a versatile, robust, and fast modality all at the same time. However, the quality of your imaging results can only be ensured if your entire workflow from acquisition to postprocessing is well controlled.

With the help of AI support, our CT solutions can help you standardize oncology imaging. AI Rad Companion Chest CT can help you speed up routine workflows and reduce turnaround time thanks to automated lesion detection. And myExam Companion empowers staff of different experience levels to achieve high-quality scans on a consistent basis – in various patient cases and for a broad range of procedures.

While early detection of cancer is crucial, tumors often remain undiscovered until it is too late. This is particularly true for lung cancer, which claims 1.7 million lives per year. This cancer is usually diagnosed when metastasis are already present.5 The majority of patients do not even survive the first year after diagnosis.6 At-risk populations should therefore be screened regularly – but cumulative dose levels are a concern.

Our solutions portfolio features Tin Filter, an innovative technology that helps you optimally tailor radiation exposure. And, with FLASH spiral scans as well as Dual Source CT technology, fast scans allow you to significantly reduce exam times for patients who have shortness of breath or are undergoing pain management.

Prof. Nicola Sverzellati heads up the radiology unit at the University Hospital of Parma in Parma, Italy. In this video, he discusses how Tin Filter can help optimize lung cancer screening programs.
