With the support of Vietnam Respiratory Society, on August 22, 2020, RAPIDPoint 500 Blood Gas Analyzer was handed over to Da Nang Hospital, to support the hospital to address the critical situation of new rising numbers of COVID-19 positive cases in Vietnam.
Blood gas testing may play a critical role in the management of patients infected with COVID-19, often being required for patients undergoing evaluation for respiratory distress and/or signs of dyspnea. Should a patient develop a need to be placed on a ventilator, routine blood gas testing and monitoring may be required. Arterial blood gas tests provide the status of a patient’s oxygenation levels and enable healthcare providers to determine whether adjustments to ventilator settings or other treatments are required.
To contain, manage and also reduce occurrences of outbreaks, hospitals need sufficient and suitable medical resources, especially high quality and efficient diagnostics equipment. As hospital’s trusted partner, Siemens Healthineers along with its Business Partner Binh Minh Co. Ltd. and Vietnam Respiratory Society, are pleased to join hands with Da Nang Hospital to fight against this pandemic by donating the RAPIDPoint 500 Blood Gas Analyzer to the hospital.
“Vietnam is witnessing the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. While the healthcare industry along with the government is trying everything to curb the infection, Siemens Healthineers and its partner also want to contribute to the community in this fight against COVID-19. We are aware of the complexity of the current situation in Da Nang and it is our privilege to support Da Nang Hospital that is playing a significant role in providing treatment to the COVID-19 affected patients”, mentioned Pedro Vilaca, Country Head, Siemens Healthineers, Vietnam.
“RAPIDPoint 500 generates blood gas, glucose, lactate and full CO-oximetry including neonatal total bilirubin and total hemoglobin results, which are used to diagnose and monitor critically ill patients in the intensive care unit, operating room or emergency room. We hope to enable caregivers to focus on patients in critical care requirements”, said Nguyen Quoc Thinh, Head of Laboratory Diagnostics, Siemens Healthineers, Vietnam.
“We have witnessed amazing effort made by the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, by healthcare workers of central and provincial hospitals who have been working hand in hand with their colleagues in Danang in the past days. I am glad to see COVID-19 Steering Committee of Da Nang issued Decision No. 212/QD-BCD to confirm the termination of quarantine period for Da Nang hospital. However, the whole city of Da Nang is still undergoing social-distancing and there is still a lot to do in the coming time to reduce number of new cases and to well manage the current cases. The Vietnam Respiratory Society highly appreciates this donation opportunity to support medical resources of Da Nang hospital in an attempt to bring about better care for patients”, said Prof. Dr. Ngo Quy Chau, Chairman of Respiratory Society and Senior Advisor to Minister of Health in COVID-19 pandemic prevention.
On behalf of Da Nang Hospital, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Trung, Deputy Director of Da Nang Hospital expressed his thanks to this meaningful gesture of Siemens Healthineers, Binh Minh company and Vietnam Respiratory Society.
