Bolton NHS Foundation Trust have welcomed their first patients to the town’s new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) where 80,000 diagnostic tests and scans will be carried out each year. The multi-million-pound centre is equipped with the latest MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound technology from Siemens Healthineers and will provide care ranging from diagnostic imaging to phlebotomy, supporting patients on elective care journeys and those referred for cancer diagnosis. Thousands of patients across Greater Manchester will benefit from the accessibility of vital, potentially life-saving diagnostic tests and scans.

The CDC enhances capacity, playing an important role in Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership’s strategy1 by reducing backlogs and improving patient access. Separate from urgent settings, expanded services with the latest technology streamline scanning and optimise patient flow. Among the range of equipment from Siemens Healthineers is a MAGNETOM Altea MRI equipped with Deep Resolve AI technology, providing staff with accelerated workflows and enhancing clinical performance. The wide range of equipment will provide a one-stop shop for diagnostic tests and also includes two SOMATOM X.Cite CTs, a YSIO X.pree X-ray and two ACUSON Sequoia ultrasound systems from Siemens Healthineers.

As part of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Bolton Hospital also benefits from a 15-year Value Partnership with Siemens Healthineers which ensures the selection of innovative equipment outside of the CDC, comprehensive training and advanced maintenance support to repair and upgrade technology when needed. The additional equipment from Siemens Healthineers will help the trust to maximise capacity and reduce waiting times amidst rising demand for diagnostic services.

“Our new CDC means we can treat thousands of patients for all diagnostics, such as MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound, as early as possible,” states Alexandra Mann, MRI Lead at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. “This works as a one-stop-shop where we can triage and carry out imaging on the same day. The sooner we get patients in for their tests and scans, the sooner we can provide the treatment they need and improve their health outcomes.”

“We are proud to partner with Bolton NHS Foundation Trust to extend access to patients across Greater Manchester, outside of acute hospital settings,” states Lee Charlton, Community Diagnostic Centre Lead at Siemens Healthineers Great Britain and Ireland. “The addition of advanced diagnostic technology from Siemens Healthineers at Royal Bolton Hospital CDC will support efforts to deliver a better diagnostic service and more personalised experience by providing a single point of access to a range of services.”
