Siemens Healthineers is celebrating over half a century of pioneering point-of-care production at the company’s Sudbury manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom and 85 years of operations in South East England. This small-town site has achieved global impact, producing life-saving specialist instrumentation for laboratories and hospitals around the world for urinalysis, diabetes and blood gas analysis. Sudbury has long served as a major hub for production, global sales and distribution of the point-of-care portfolio which enables rapid, convenient diagnostic testing both inside and outside of hospital settings. Operations are continually expanding with innovations such as the RAPIDLab 500e Blood Gas System and CLINITEK Status Connect System.

The site’s legacy of medical device production and innovation spans 85 years, beginning with correspondence between Winston Churchill and Arthur Evans, which led to the founding of Evans Electroselenium Limited (EEL). Pooling knowledge and expertise obtained through multiple acquisitions and mergers enabled many technical breakthroughs over the years and ultimately resulted in acquisition by Siemens in 2007. The Sudbury team has since harnessed new tools and reinvented processes driven by passionate, innovative staff dedicated to transforming various point-of-care solutions.

As a long-term local employer, Siemens Healthineers in Sudbury is committed to engaging with the local community, offering diverse employment opportunities and supporting various educational, volunteer and fundraising initiatives. This year, the site is also delighted to celebrate two team members’ 50-year anniversaries of working at the site, a milestone and testament to the factory’s role in the local community and the longevity of service from their valued employees. This summer, the Sudbury site hosted a celebration in the community to commemorate over half a century of pioneering point-of-care production at Sudbury.
