Environmental, Social and Governance

At Siemens Healthineers, we value our stakeholders and are aware of the impact our operations might have on them and the environment. We place particular importance on the wellbeing of our employees and others affected by our activities and on maintaining high Health and Safety standards.

In support of our commitment to the Social Value Model (SVM) and Sustainability, we have a long history of committing to improving the environment and support social value projects with robust approaches.

This is demonstrated by driving changes through our research & development, continuous improvement projects and the reduction in carbon across our organisation to create societies of the future.

  • With at least 50% of the world’s population having no access to safe, affordable, and timely healthcare services, delivering healthcare is an urgent task. Overall, we aim to increase patient touchpoints in underserved countries by more than 75%, from approximately 147 million in FY 2020, to 220 million in FY 2025. In FY 2023, we reached 221 million patient touchpoints in underserved countries, increasing our FY 2020 figures by 50%. We are on track to reach our target by FY 2030.
  • In response to the urgent call from scientists to decarbonize the global economy, we are taking specific actions and pursuing a long-term climate strategy and goals. For our own operations, Siemens Healthineers globally have committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 50% by FY 2030 compared to FY 2019 (247 kt). We have also set a medium-term target of 160 kt CO2e in FY 2025. We reduced the Scope 1 and 2 emissions in our own operations to 180 kilotonnes CO2e in FY 2023. That’s 27% less greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) since 2019. This is a clear indicator that we are well on track to reach our target. Siemens Healthineers in the UK have committed to being net zero by 2050. UK data and how we are going to achieve this is explained in the Carbon Reduction Plans below.
  • One particular focus of our sustainability strategy is to increase the number of women in senior management positions. To improve gender equality, the proportion is to be increased to 26% by FY 2025. As of September 30, 2023, we had 25% women in senior management positions. This is an increase of 35% since we began working on this focus topic.
  • The GB&I Management Team are leading this important work by supporting the local development of a network of champions to work collaboratively with our customers and other interested stakeholders.
  • We have invested in training for the SVM at all levels in the organisation.
  • We will look to collaborate during bids and tenders to create dynamic and unique offerings that support the Model Award Criteria selected by the purchasing organisation.
  • Where required and appropriate we will agree the measures to be collected and managed during the duration of the contract.
  • We will provide robust KPI’S and reporting structures as part of our contract management and co-create continuous improvement and demonstrate how the initiatives will benefit and influence staff, suppliers, customers and communities through the delivery of the contract to support the Policy Outcome.
  • We can demonstrate how the SVM is not new through the number of policies and practices already in place which directly support the requirements of the SVM.
