Benenden Hospital: Image-led ultrasound liver screening
Offering the first image-led ultrasound liver screening service in South East England, private healthcare provider Benenden Hospital provides integrated liver and abdominal ultrasound services.
Two ACUSON Sequoia Crown systems support accurate assessment of liver stiffness and fat quantification using Auto Point Shear Wave Elastography (Auto pSWE) and Ultrasound Derived Fat Fraction (UDFF), whilst visualising liver tissue for signs of disease and the wider abdomen in a single appointment.
At a percentage of fatty infiltration greater than 5%, a liver is considered to be abnormally fatty1. Fatty liver, or steatosis, encompasses several categories of liver disease including Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD formally known as NAFLD), and alcoholic fatty liver disease - the first stage of Alcohol Related Liver Disease. MASLD is considered to be the most common chronic adult liver disease worldwide and is estimated to affect up to 1 in 5 people in the UK2,3.
Steatosis is the initial and reversible fatty liver state. There are often no symptoms in the early stages, so patients are undiagnosed. If the causes are not addressed, patients can progress to a more serious disease state and are only diagnosed when more prominent symptoms arise. Early assessment, detection, and characterisation of liver steatosis, whilst still at a reversible stage, is key to successful disease management and improved patient outcomes.
Early liver diagnosis with ACUSON Sequoia
The ACUSON Sequoia ultrasound system provides non-invasive, cost-effective and accessible quantitative and qualitative data, through deeper imaging with greater ease - providing clarity to treat patients effectively.
Ultrasound Derived Fat Fraction
UDFF on the ACUSON Sequoia is the only ultrasound technology to classify hepatic steatosis as an index value greater than 5% and is comparable with MRI-PDFF4.
Auto Point Shear Wave
Auto pSWE offers one click acquisition - delivering up to 15 valid pSWE measurements and reducing elastography exam time by 15%.
Deep Abdominal Imaging
The Deep Abdominal Transducer (DAX) on the ACUSON Sequoia provides increased diagnostic confidence in patient populations limited by conventional ultrasound technology.
Ultrasound Derived Fat Fraction (UDFF) White paper
In this white paper, you'll learn how the ACUSON Sequoia ultrasound system delivers a non-invasive approach to managing nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and hepatic steatosis by liver fat quantification in seconds to aid in successful clinical assessment.
