Additionally, making patients aware of their HIV status and educating them on ways to prevent spreading it to others can reduce the risk of disease transmission. Laboratory testing is an important component in the detection and management of HIV infection. HIV-testing technology continues to evolve, with various types of HIV testing currently available on the market. Understanding the types of HIV testing available on the market and how effectively these tests can address the needs of timely, accurate, and early detection is critical. This webinar will discuss the evolution of HIV testing up to and including the “fifth-generation” immunoassay test, describe how to interpret the 2014 CDC testing algorithm, and address the clinical implications of diagnosing HIV infection earlier in the disease’s progression.
