The role of Procalcitonin (PCT) in acute patient management

The role of Procalcitonin (PCT) in acute patient management – Fast, accurate sepsis diagnosis with BRAHMS PCT and Siemens Healthineers

Advancing Healthcare Webinar Series

Dr. Melanie Pollan, PhD, MT (ASCP)
Senior Director, Scientific & Clinical Affairs at Siemens Healthineers

Mortality from sepsis increases 8% for every hour treatment is delayed and as many as 80% of deaths could be prevented with rapid diagnosis and treatment. Early recognition of infection and initiation of therapy is essential to improve patient outcomes which may include tissue damage, organ failure and death. PCT is a biomarker which can aid in early identification of systemic bacterial infections, assess mortality risk, and guide antimicrobial effectiveness. Join Dr. Melanie Pollan of Siemens Healthineers for a comprehensive review of PCT and how it may be used to manage patients with suspected bacterial infections, particularly for those in acute care settings across both community-based hospitals and integrated delivery networks. In her presentation, Dr. Pollan will:

  • Review the patient impact and health economic impact of sepsis in the US
  • Provide an understanding of the role of PCT as a marker of sepsis and how it compares to other traditional markers
  • Discuss how PCT can aid in antibiotic decision making
