Compressed SensingBeyond speed.

Siemens - MRI - Compressed Sensing

Currently, even with state-of-the-art MRI technologies, we have reached the plateau when it comes to sampling speed. In abdominal and cardiac imaging, for example, this limitation translates into imaging over multiple breath-holds, making it extremely challenging to examine severely ill patients. Other applications, such as 3D isotropic imaging of the brain or MSK joints, provide clear clinical value, but are often not applied regularly due to long scans times.

Compressed Sensing heralds the paradigm shift for routine clinical imaging, by providing tremendous acquisition time reductions and gaining new capabilities for 3D imaging, especially in the depiction of dynamic processes or moving organs.
Compressed Sensing offers synergistic enhancement to parallel imaging with sparse sampling and iterative reconstruction, enabling acceleration factors up to 40.

Cardiac imaging

Compressed Sensing

CS Cardiac Cine was the first Compressed Sensing application available in the industry. Rather than taking nearly six minutes with multiple breath-holds, a Cardiac Cine scan can now be done within 15-25 seconds1 – in free-breathing.

Your benefits:

  • Acquire free-breathing, high-resolution Cardiac Cine images
  • Capture the whole cardiac cycle for precise quantification
  • Expand patient population eligible for cardiac MRI

Compressed Sensing Cardiac Cine is the first step. Stay tuned, and join the Compressed Sensing revolution.

Body imaging

Compressed Sensing GRASP-VIBE

CS GRASP-VIBE is changing how abdominal MRI is performed. Rather than a complex abdominal exam with multiple breath-holds, critical timing of contrast application, and multiple patient commands, Compressed Sensing GRASP-VIBE acquires everything in one continuous run – under free-breathing, without complex timing. With 3D CS SPACE for MRCP, it is possible to acquire high-resolution 3D datasets of the pancreatic and biliary duct system in a single, short breath-hold or in 1-2 minutes under free breathing with up to 20x acceleration.

Your benefits:

  • Perform push-button, free-breathing liver dynamics
  • Overcome timing challenges in dynamic imaging and respiratory artifacts
  • Perform high-resolution MRCP scans in one short breathhold
  • Expand the patient population eligible for abdominal MRI

Neurology and MSK

CS SPACE, CS SEMAC and CS TOF

Isotropic 3D imaging of the brain or MSK joints provides clear clinical value but still is not established to the full extent in clinical routine. This is due to typical scan times of 5-6 minutes and compromises in spatial resolution when scan times are reduced.
By accelerating imaging with Compressed Sensing, 3D scans of the brain in every contrast, with 1mm isotropic resolution are possible in only 3 minutes per scan. Time-of-Flight scans with submillimeter resolution can be accelerated by a factor of 10, enabling scan times of only 2 minutes. Similar advantages can also be achieved for high-resolution MSK imaging and with CS SEMAC. With CS SEMAC, in particular, high quality imaging in the presence of MR-conditional metal implants can be performed in up to 55% shorter scan times2.

Your benefits:

  • Acquire 1mm isotropic 3D brain images in all relevant contrasts in 3 minutes each
  • Acquire 3D images with sub-millimeter resolution for all relevant contrast in musculoskeletal imaging in less than 5 minutes per scan.
  • Perform high-resolution ToF imaging in 2:00 minutes for time critical patients with up to 10-fold acceleration
  • Reliably apply advanced metal artefact reduction in daily clinical routine – less than 6 minutes per scan with CS SEMAC
