Large prospective screening trials have already underlined the advantages of tomosynthesis screening compared to digital mammography. So why has digital breast tomosynthesis not yet become fully implemented in screening? One of the reasons could be its longer reading times, which can be up to twice as long as for digital mammography. In her presentation, Associate Prof. Dr. Sophia Zackrisson from Malmö, Sweden talks about different ways how reading in tomosynthesis screening can be optimized – from different image protocols and slabbing to computer-aided detection. She also introduces final results from the Malmö Breast Tomosynthesis Screening Trial. They suggest that one-view digital breast tomosynthesis could be sufficient for tomosynthesis screening, which will also lead to a reduction in reading time. Watch her presentation!
