Susan Dawson was recently promoted to the position of laboratory administrative director at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago. Previously she held the position of clinical laboratory manager for over 20 years. Susan earned her MBA from North Park University and her BA from Augustana College. She is an ASCP-registered medical technologist.

Susan has presented on laboratory efficiency, automation, and autoverification at symposiums in the U.S., Europe, and China, including the AACC annual meeting, Executive War College, and the National Chemistry meeting in China. She has co-authored abstracts and papers on laboratory efficiency; middleware implementation, use, and optimization; and laboratory automation systems. She has worked with data-management solutions for 19 years and implemented autovalidation for chemistry, hematology, and coagulation in her laboratory in 2003. In addition to using software solutions to improve quality and make laboratory operations more efficient, her management goal is to reduce work stress so that at the end of their shift, her staff has plenty of energy left to enjoy time with their spouses, children, friends, hobbies, and other interests and activities.
