During the COVID-19 pandemic radiology departments are facing the challenge to achieve sufficient capacity for continued operations while ensuring the health of the workforce. The Clinic for Radiology at Charité – Universitätsmedzin Berlin underwent crucial changes in the organization of managing patients and radiological exams. Prof. Bernd Hamm and Felix Döllinger describe which measures were introduced in the radiology department for the protection of staff and patient management. Prof. Bernd Hamm, MD

Prof. Bernd Hamm is Medical Director of the Centre CC 6 and Director of the Clinic for Radiology at Charité, one of the largest university hospitals in Europe with more than 3,000 beds, as well as Berlin’s oldest hospital. Doctors and scientists research, heal and teach at the highest international level. Prof. Hamm is an honorary member of the German Radiological Society, the Swiss Radiological Society, the Austrian Radiological Society, the Japanese Radiological Society, the Chinese Society of Radiology, the Italian Society of Medical Radiology and the Korean Society of Radiology and the RSNA. With more than 750 published original papers, 14 books and more than 500 invited lectures, Prof. Hamm is one of the world’s leading radiologists in his field. His views from the front lines of the COVID-19 battle will offer unique and valuable insights into how to combat this extraordinary crisis.

Dr. Felix Döllinger

Dr. Felix Döllinger is Senior Physician at the Clinic for Radiology at Charité. He is a member of the European Society for Thoracic Diagnostics "ESTI" and the AG Thoracic Diagnostics of the German Radiological Society. For several years, he has been employed as a disaster control officer and hygiene officer physician at the department of Radiology. Furthermore, he leads the scientific and clinical working groups for thoracic diagnostics at the Virchow Clinic of Charité Berlin. His focus as a researcher and author is on the CT and MRI imaging of lung diseases. In his current engagements, he reports on imaging findings with COVID-19 and is significantly involved in taking measures to overcome the coronavirus pandemic.
