MRI utilization in radiation therapy treatment planning continues to see steady growth. Between 2006 and 2018 its utilization increased from 6% to 24%.1 The MAGNETOM RT Pro edition for MAGNETOM Sola and MAGNETOM Vida, the first MR scanners with BioMatrix Technology, addresses the challenges of patient variability for RT treatment planning. MAGNETOM Sola and MAGNETOM Vida deliver excellent soft-tissue contrast as well as imaging that can yield information for physicians regarding tumor extent and functional parameters. Efficiently integrating this additional modality into existing processes can add substantial value and advance therapy outcomes while helping your institution’s clinical capabilities.

MAGNETOM RT Pro edition for MAGNETOM Sola and VidaThe time is now for MR in RT – with BioMatrix.
Features & Benefits
Support precision in radiotherapy with MRI intelligence
BioMatrix Technology, available on MAGNETOM Sola and MAGNETOM Vida, truly personalizes MRI and increases precise, reproducible imaging for more efficient RT planning, monitoring, and follow-up. BioMatrix consists of three key technologies: BioMatrix Sensors are respiratory sensors that automatically display a patient’s breathing curve and actively trigger acquisition sequences at the right point in time. BioMatrix Tuners improve the correlation of DWI to corresponding anatomical scans. With BioMatrix Interfaces, the BioMatrix dockable table with eDrive helps you move your patient effortlessly to and from the scanner, and docks automatically with one touch.
Scan patients consistently in the treatment position
In order to provide precise and reproducible patient positioning, the MAGNETOM RT Pro edition offers dedicated hardware for high-quality MR imaging in the treatment position. To fully utilize MR imaging capabilities for RT treatment planning, we’ve partnered with leading companies in the RT market (LAP,3 Qfix,3 CIVCO,3 and Orfit3) to provide positioning and patient marking equipment which is compatible with all MAGNETOM RT Pro edition scanners. Furthermore, MAGNETOM Sola and MAGNETOM Vida come with a wide range of coils, enabling easy and fast patient positioning as well as precise image quality in the treatment position. Thanks to an ultra-high coil-element density, the new BioMatrix and UltraFlex coils provide increased SNR and enable high acceleration factors that can save considerable time.
Rely on intuitive and dedicated RT workflows
Adding MR into the RT workflow can be challenging, especially for those who have less experience in MR imaging. The RT Dot Engine and syngo.via RT Image Suite help users to incorporate MR into RT by providing workflow guidance – from image acquisition to postprocessing and contouring.4
Synthetic CT, the latest feature of syngo.via RT Image Suite, enables users to implement an MR-only radiotherapy workflow.5
In order to perform precise target delineation, 4D MRI – RT Respiratory Self-Gating helps you caption organ motion in abdomen and thorax with automatic respiratory phase sorting during the entire free-breathing acquisition.

01MRI is critical for RT planning of the pelvis, not only for better tumor delineation nut also for delineation of the surrounding organs at risk (including the bladder, rectum, and femur tips). T2 TSE can be especially beneficial for tumor delineation.
- Scanned on MAGNETOM Vida
Either for primary brain tumors or intracranial metastases, MRI helps provide vital imaging information for treatment planning of conventional and stereotactic radiotherapy. The RT Dot Engine provides dedicated brain protocols, allowing the visualization of the extent of the lesion and potential side effects such as edema, necrosis, and more.
- Scanned on MAGNETOM Vida
Particularly for the head/neck region, MRI can provide unprecedented information on soft tissue structures. However, image quality and spatial integrity can be compromised by spatial distortions and susceptibility effects. Both the dedicated protocols from the RT Dot Engine for head/neck, and the new BioMAtrix Tuners SliceAdjust can help achieve images of high spatial integrity and high signal homogeneity for RT planning purposes.
- Scanned on MAGNETOM Vida
Even if it's a difficult body region to scan, lung MR imaging is becoming increasingly important in utilization for RT planning purpose.
The BioMatrix Sensor can help support MR lung imaging by automatically detecting and displaying the patient's breathing curve on the scanner, allowing respiratory triggering or gatting without the need for a respiratory belt.
- Scanned on MAGNETOM Sola
MRI can offer superior soft tissue contrast, especially important for the visualization of liver pathologies. While previous use was limited due to respiratory artifacts, Compressed Sensing GRASP-VIBE can help improve image quality for tumor delineation under free-breathing.
- Scanned on MAGNETOM Sola
MRI is critical for RT planning of the prostate not only for better tumor delineation but also for delineation of the surrounding organs at risk (including the bladder, recturn, and femur tips). The T1 Dixon VIBE protocol can be used to derive a Synthetic CT image for MR-only Radiotherapy planning.
