Siemens Healthineers splits fast-growing Asia Pacific operations into two regions

Siemens Healthineers is splitting its Asia Pacific operations into two to allow both China and the rest of the region to achieve their full potential. China, now its own region, continues to be headed by Jerry Wang, while the new Asia Pacific Japan region is headed by Vy Tran, formerly Varian’s chief compliance and quality officer. The changes complete and strengthen the global top leadership team following the promotion of Elisabeth Staudinger, former head of Asia Pacific, to the Siemens Healthineers managing board, where she retains responsibility at board level for the two new regions.

“It makes sense to allow diverse and fast-growing Asia Pacific markets to flourish in their own right, while establishing China, set to be the biggest global market in medical technology by 2030, as its own region,” said Staudinger. “In Vy Tran and Jerry Wang, we have two strong leaders who will ensure the new regions excel.”

The former Asia Pacific region accounted for 27 percent of Siemens Healthineers’ total revenue in fiscal year 2021, at EUR 4.82 billion (USD 4.65 billion). Within the region, China’s revenues were EUR 2.35 billion, or almost half.

Vy Tran, who will move from California to Singapore at the end of December, said: “I am thrilled to take on this new opportunity. I look forward to working with the team to further expand growth and access to care in this very exciting region.”

Jerry Wang, who has headed the operations of Siemens Healthineers in China since 2018, said: “As we strengthen our role as a trusted partner of the Chinese healthcare system and its patients, I welcome this opportunity to focus even more clearly on China’s most urgent healthcare needs.”

Tran joined Varian, now a Siemens Healthineers company, in 1998 and has held leadership positions in regulatory affairs, quality and compliance. She has been key to sharpening Varian’s focus on cancer care through acquisitions and divestments, and also in the combination of Varian and Siemens Healthineers. Her areas of expertise include global regulation, ethics and trade.

Wang has over 20 years of experience in the medical technology industry. He began in sales marketing with Siemens Healthineers in 2001, rising to general manager of Diagnostic Imaging and Advanced Therapies in China. After spells with Sorin Group and Philips – whose China business he led - Wang returned to Siemens Healthineers in 2018.
